I said I owed you one.
What sequencer are you using and what are you making the drums out of (sampler instrument, drum synth, chunks of audio?) I can give you more direct advice if you tell me.
Some general advice on getting that sound is to make a load of short snare notes in a row (16th or 32ths). Make the hits increase in velocity from the beginning to the end in a sort of upwards curve.
Alternatively if you're using actual GM midi drums one of the drums should be a snare roll. Its at the bottom of the keyboard near most of the snares.
If you're using a sequencer I have I'd be happy to program it in and send it.

Well, i tryed this with 16th, 32th, 64th and 128th - velocity variation also - but it all sounded like crap.. (i can export my tries as Midi, if you want me to)
Maybe i should add some white noise to it?!

id say that in the song it wasnt done with midi, thats samples. i programmed drum rolls in reason once too, and had the same problem. timing was correct, but for one thing too correct, and secondly it really depends on the drum sound u use

Why don't you want to use samples? Jungle is a sample-based music, and that's why it sounds so organic... It's the natural cadence that the human drummers have. I mean, it's not a requirement, by any means, but to flot-out dismiss the possibility of using samples? Why limit yourself?

I used to get that sound all the time on Reason. It has a perfect drum machine to use.
This effect is very hard to get with a sampler or chunks of audio but works great with a drum machine.
Load the drum sample into the Redrum.
Do a tight roll with the velocity of the hits increasing in a sharp curve as previously discussed. Its all about the velocity roll. Thats the important thing.
You may want to make the roll out of alternating slightly differently pitched versions of the same drum sample.
Use the "tool window" (I think its called that) if you want to use the command double note speed or something. It means you can edit midi notes into halfs and doubles with one click and is very good for finickity drum bits.
Now copy and paste your tight velocity rolls into a rhythm if you want.
This next bit may make no sense:
So if your drum roll goes ratattatatatatataatata you copy and paste it into something like:
So it goes ratattatatatatata-ratattatat-ratattatat-ratatta-ratattatatttatatttatat

It's not that i won't use samples at all, but in this specific part i want to create a similar sound on my own, to extend and modulate it, like my fantasy told me.
So in this case, i think the sample would limit me and not vice versa.

Tried around a bit with the velocity and some other snare sounds, and the result is sounding nice, also a bit organic because i rescind the quantisation
Have thanks for the help, i'll post the whole result if it's done
cheers

I got the first part, without having a bunch of variations of snaredrum samples it could be daunting.
Overall BPM is about 128.
If you have renoise 2.5b9 I can upload the part I could get down somewhere.

gotta use a decent snare pitched down a little depending what the snare is at.

I'm not sure what it's called but it looks like this:

It's an accessory you can change the tightness of that attaches to the snare drum, It could be called a snare gut assembly.
http://images.google...l%3Den%26um%3D1
When a snare has this, this thing loosely rattles against the snare drum head when it's hit, the drummer can change the tightness of it to remove the rattle.
When it's rattling against the snare drum head it sounds alot faster, that's where the awareness of speed is coming from.
toward the end of the drum line, when the snare has more of a tone and less rattle that strand thing is being tightened.
a snare sample with the assembly for the beginning and alternating between the first one and a sample with the assembly tightened would work well for that end bit.

All snare drums have snares, so far as I know. They are inside the drum, laying across the bottom. You tighten/loosen them with a key. That's how snare drums get that POW sound... It's the metal snapping against the bottom head.
