I have a fairly large reggae and dancehall collection and play it out often. Also, i have a ton of hip hop that is basically gathering dust haha. My older hip hop is cool but some the "top40" stuff from a few years ago is a waste LOL.
Recently I have been collecting funky house, jazzanova, downtempo stuff. I surprise myself with how much house i have been playing lately. I recently bought my brothers huge house collection of records and going thru these tunes the last few nights... i like them (not all of them, but some of the more soulful stuff is great). I never used to like house music. But i think with all the indie electro fidget stuff i have been playing lately its kinda new and exciting in a way to get into this. House music is so played out yada yada i know.
Some of the instrumentals on these jazzanova records are soothing and its easy to spin, so its fun for me. Im not big with names yet, but the music has my attention.
anyways, question is: what other generes do you collect on vinyl that may surprise us. Mp3s don't count.
I like the "non ragga" section and seeing peeps post mixes in different styles. Shows a broader knowledge and dedication to music in general which is awesome.
a lot of people in my area have the mind frame "if its not DnB, if it doesnt go wobble wobble, then fuck it off".. which is retarded. good music is good music.

I also buy Beatles 45's... Jazz vinyl... Eastern music (Koto, Noh, Zen chanting, Raga, etc)...
I have decided to start collecting reggae 45's. I have a few, but not nearly enough. I just want enough of the bigger classics that I could play a 2-3 hour set of big tunes. Just for giggles...

I acutally just ripped an album of Japanese Zen Buddhist chanting recorded live in session in Kyoto in 1960-something. I play it in the car to get the kids to fall asleep. It works every time.
I'll write out a post-it to upload it for you.
I have a REALLY good kabuki theatre album that I plan on ripping next. I'll get that up, too.
What is cool about those albums is that the back of the jacket is usually a long-winded explanation of the music, with both a history of the genre itself and of the recording session. The 60's were cool.
